The domestic (the everyday): …the realm of repetition, reiteration, and routine. That which does not declare itself to be a work of art first of all.

Wonder (beauty): to begin to wonder at the subversive and critical possibilities of the beautitful, the excessive, the fantastic”

– Polly Apfelbaum, 1992

New York-based Polly Apfelbaum has exhibited extensively throughout North America and Europe. Her artistic practice fuses traditions of painting, craft, and installation. Deploying a wide variety of media—including fabric, paint, dyes, wallpaper, plasticine, and ceramics. Her eye-popping colors and dynamic patterns, Apfelbaum works to blur the lines between painting, sculpture, and installation. Her sensibility is informed by an encyclopedic knowledge of the applied arts, art history, and popular culture.
