Marbled paper and drawings of crocheted lace and quilt squares were translated into
risographs and screenprints on mulberry papers. The printed patterns were then
collaged, cut, and embellished with gouache to create a unique work.
Jacquelyn Strycker is a Brooklyn-based artist and educator. She has a BA in Visual Arts from Columbia University, an MFA from Tyler School of Art and has taught at Temple University and Columbia University. She is presently a faculty member and the Director of Operations of the MFA Art Practice department at the School of Visual Arts (SVA). Strycker has participated in residencies at ArtPod Berlin, Gaia Studio, The Women’s Studio Workshop and the Vermont Studio Center. She’s organized exhibitions and screenings at Present Company, Brooklyn; Satellite Art Show, Miami Beach; Videology, Brooklyn; Electronic Arts Intermix, New York; and the Visual Arts Gallery, New York, and has received grants from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, FIGMENT, and the Action Arts League. Strycker is interested in the synthesis of craft, home, life and art. Her drawings and prints use household objects, supplies, and textiles as source material, and she often uses mechanical processes like risograph printing and offset lithography to translate handmade processes like paper marbling, embroidery, quilting and cross-stitch.
