Inspired by anatomy, life cycles, and the natural world, I create artwork that is evocative of growth, sexual activity and reproduction, death and decay, love and loss, pain and pleasure, and healing from trauma.

Settling is part of the ongoing series “Revisiting A Post Colonial Reality”. This piece suggests the interaction of two different shapes: a group of pod-like shapes moving towards or in the direction of the tubular or vertical ones that seemed settled, or in place. These series is the artist articulation of the artist views on postcolonial issues and identity (gender and race) within the African Diaspora

Juanita Lanzo is a visual artist, educator, and independent curator working in The Bronx and living in East Harlem.

Her artworks have been included in various group exhibitions that have focused on feminism, Caribbean identity, and African Diaspora, body politics, postcolonialism and racism, WallWorks NYC, Bronx Art Space, Hell Gate Arts, and Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos, in the Bronx, Aljira Center for Contemporary Art, Newark New Jersey, Taller Boricua, Clemente Soto Velez’s Cultural Center, in NYC, and University of Puerto Rico Galeria Oller, Museo de Arte e Historia, Ateneo Puertorriqueño, San Juan PR.

She graduated from City College in NY (MFA 2004–Printmaking and Drawing/Painting) and from University of Puerto Rico (BFA 1996–Printmaking and Drawing).
