Gold Vase is one of a series ten images from Posies, and part of the exhibition Natural Light shown in 2018 at Anglim Gilbert Gallery in San Francisco. The work addresses a fascination with the quirks of then ever-contrary natural world and the playfulness, perversions and pathos of nature.
J. John Priola, born in Denver Colorado, received a B.A. from Metropolitan State College, Denver in 1984 and an. M.F.A. from the SFAI in 1987. His work has been shown in major exhibitions such as, “In A Different Light” University Art Museum, Berkeley and the traveling exhibition “Picturing Eden,” which premiered at the George Eastman Museum of Photography, and “Prospect ’96”, at the Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, Germany. His work is included in private and Corporate collections and Museum collections,
such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and SFMOMA, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Arena Editions published a monograph of his work in 1998, and is a recipient of a Svane Foundation Commission. Recent lectures include Yale School of Art and San Jose State University. He has taught at ICP Bard,CCA and is the Director of the Low-Residency MFA Program at the San Francisco Art Institute. His work is represented by Anglim Gilbert Gallery, Joseph Bellows, and Weston Gallery.
