Damien Hirst released a new line of editions with London’s Heni Editions based off his Colour Space paintings including Gritti, Claridge’s and Savoy. The Colour Space Paintings debuted in 2018 for London’s Tate Museum and are a continuation of his signature spot paintings. Hirst has been known to employ an army of assistants to produce many if his works, however with this series he personally created the new canvases.
“I originally wanted the Spots to look like they were painted by a human trying to paint like a machine. Colour Space is going back to the human element, so instead you have the fallibility of the human hand in the drips and inconsistencies. There are still no two exact colors that repeat in each painting, which is really important to me. I think of them as cells under a microscope.” – Damien Hirst
