These are original cards from the 1 st print edition of the ECOtarot deck. The ECOtarot
deck is used in an ongoing public performance where the artist offers “climate future”
readings in busy thoroughfares (and now online). Also included in this donation is an
ECOtarot reading by the artist.
Adriene Jenik is an artist and educator who resides in the desert. Her computer and media art spans 3 decades, including pioneering work in interactive cinema and live telematic performance. Her mediated performance projects have been written about in The New York Times, published in The Drama Review, and recognized by the Rockefeller Foundation. Jenik’s current creative research projects include “data humanization” performances, immersive learning experiments and street performances reading “climate futures” with her ECOtarot deck. Climate future readings are based on climate science and environmental justice and help people navigate the uncertainties of our time. To date, Jenik has performed almost 1000 readings on street corners, farmers markets and venues like the Hammer Museum and Creative Time’s Summit X. Jenik received her BA in English from Douglass College, Rutgers University and her MFA in Electronic Arts from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. At Arizona State University, she serves as Professor of Intermedia in the School of Art, affiliate faculty in the School for the Future of Innovation in Society and a sustainability scientist at the Global Institute of Sustainability.
